How Much Does Large Format Printing Cost?

Real numbers, not 'depends'. Here's what large format actually costs and why.

Large-format pricing varies, but the variables are knowable. Here are real ranges by product and the three factors that drive every quote.

Real ranges by product

Indoor banners: $4–$6 per square foot finished. Outdoor banners: $6–$9 per square foot. Retractable banners: $150–$350 each. Posters mounted on foam: $5–$8 per square foot. Wall wraps installed: $10–$15 per square foot. Vehicle wraps: $3,000–$6,000 full wrap. Building wraps: $4–$10 per square foot plus install. Trade-show booth back-walls: $12–$22 per square foot for fabric SEG, $8–$14 for vinyl on panel.

What drives the price

Three things: square footage (the biggest factor), substrate (premium materials cost 2–3x economy), and finishing/install (adds 25–100% depending on complexity). A $400 banner and a $4,000 banner can be the same artwork — different substrate, different finishing, different install scope.

Where shops cut corners

Cheap quotes typically reflect: thin-gauge calendared vinyl instead of cast (fails in months outdoor), no laminate (fades fast), single-stitched edges (tear at first wind), and no install. Compare quotes line-by-line, not bottom-line.

Where premium pricing pays off

Premium materials matter on outdoor, high-traffic, or multi-year installs. For one-shot indoor use, economy materials are fine. We always quote tiers when applicable so clients see the tradeoff.

How to budget

Rule of thumb for budget planning: $8 per square foot for indoor banner work, $12 per square foot for outdoor wraps, $15+ per square foot for premium fabric or installed work. Multiply by total square footage. Add 25% for install if needed. That gets you within 20% of a real quote.

"A $400 banner and a $4,000 banner can be the same artwork — different substrate, different finishing."
