Glossary
Substrate
In large-format and trade-show printing, substrate is the material your image prints onto. Common substrates include scrim vinyl banner stock, polyester stretch fabric, adhesive vinyl film, foam-core board, ACM (aluminum composite material), Coroplast, opal acrylic, and Sintra. Each substrate accepts ink differently, has different durability characteristics, and serves different end uses.
Why it matters for your project
Substrate choice is the highest-leverage print decision. The same artwork on the wrong substrate fails — fabric in outdoor wind, vinyl on a textured wall, foam-core for an outdoor banner. Always work with a printer who specifies substrate based on use case, not on what's cheapest.
