Why fabric is winning indoor signage

Fabric banners have largely replaced vinyl as the dominant indoor signage medium for trade shows, lobby displays, and event backdrops. The reasons are practical: fabric has no surface glare under booth lighting, prints with richer dye-sublimation color, ships folded (eliminating the freight cost of a 10-ft tube), and looks premium next to vinyl in a side-by-side comparison. For any exhibitor doing 2+ shows a year, fabric pays back its premium within two trips through reduced shipping alone.

SEG (silicone edge graphics)

SEG is the highest-end fabric banner format: a stretch-fabric print with a silicone gasket sewn into the edge that snaps into a recessed channel on a frame. The result is a perfectly flat, edge-to-edge graphic with no visible mounting hardware — it reads as if the wall itself is printed. SEG is the standard for premium booth back-walls, lobby feature walls, and high-end retail signage. We print and finish SEG in-house and partner with frame manufacturers for the channel hardware.

Pole-pocket fabric banners

Pole-pocket fabric is the simpler fabric banner format: a hemmed fabric banner with sewn pole pockets at the top and bottom for hanging displays. Used for ceiling-hung event signage, lobby drops, and entrance banners. Cheaper than SEG, simpler to install (slip a pole through, hang from cable), and lighter to ship. Standard sizes: 4×8 ft, 6×10 ft, 8×12 ft.

Step-and-repeats and seamless backdrops

Step-and-repeat backdrops — the logo-grid backgrounds used for red-carpet photography, influencer activations, and brand events — are almost always fabric for one reason: no glare in camera flash. We print seamless step-and-repeats up to 10 ft wide and panelize seamlessly above. The fabric is hemmed with pole pockets for pipe-and-drape mounting or built into a free-standing frame.

Frequently asked

Quick answers

Can I wash a fabric banner?
Yes. Cold-water machine wash, hang dry. Most exhibitors don't bother — fabric stays clean folded in a bag between shows — but it's an option if the banner gets dirty on a venue floor.
Will fabric work outdoors?
For short-term outdoor (under 48 hours, low wind) yes. For permanent outdoor signage, no — fabric isn't UV- or moisture-stable for multi-month exterior installs. Use vinyl outdoors.
How much more does fabric cost vs vinyl?
Fabric runs $7–$12 per sq ft vs vinyl at $4–$8. Roughly 30–50% premium. SEG adds another 20–35% for the silicone edge finishing. The premium pays back in 2–3 trade shows through reduced freight.
Do you sell the frame hardware too?
For SEG, yes — we partner with frame manufacturers and quote both together. For pole-pocket fabric banners, you just need a length of pipe (any hardware store sells it).
